Splashing out for charity!

I love making the Safestyle ads, but it’s also great to be involved with different projects, and I’m always happy to help out, especially if it’s for charity and that’s a subject that’s close to my heart. There’s nothing like feeling the reward of doing something you know is a good cause, and if you can have fun in the process, then all the better – I’m up for that!!!
Recently in August I had the fantastic honour of not only hosting, but also taking part in (!), one of Safestyle’s latest charity events. It was called the “Wet Sponge event” and for a very good reason – we were all getting great big sopping wet
sponges thrown at us, at very high velocity indeed!
I was actually quite impressed with
the high number of “high up” management that put themselves all vulnerable into the line of fire – there was even one of the Directors, Nick Lilburn. There were about 20 volunteers altogether. But boy, it looked like some of those managers must’ve cheesed off a few employees, because the sponges seemed to be flying with a fast and furious vengeance! SPLASH!!!
Wow, it was fantastic! The water was splattering and splashing everywhere, Paul Robertshaw (Safestyle IT guy) got an absolute gargantuan drenching – he got dowsed with bucketfuls from up top of the building – bit unfair as he was locked in medieval stocks and had no idea, but it was mighty fun to watch!!!
Well, the fun for me was about to turn because, well, you guessed it, it was my turn!!! I can say that I’m not used to being “restrained” (as you can probably tell from my voice in my ads!) so it was funny being locked up in those stocks, and then being on the receiving end of some seriously accurate sponge shots – crikey it was a bit scary! Once I got into the swing of things though it was really quite fun, and I was even challenging everyone to take their best shot! And – in good true Safestyle fashion – they did!
I also managed to get thoroughly drenched with some bucketfuls especially reserved for me (I might have a piccy or two for you somewhere that I can add to this blog!), it was funny with everyone was telling ME to BOGOF! (don’t you just love the reaction you get from them Safestyle ads!) But all in all it was a fun time and I really enjoyed it. The whole event only took an hour and in that time we managed to raise £150 just in the shots taken, and the sponsorship money was still being counted last time I looked. I was given a towel in the end, too, which I was very grateful for!
Incidentally, the event took place to raise money for the children’s charity, the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children), which I’m sure you’ll agree is a very worthwhile cause and I’m glad I helped even in a small way, so many thanks to the organisers and to Safestyle!
Till the next blog, keep tuned in to check me out on TV! Until then, don’t forget to BLOG-OFF!
Yours in double glazing,
